Philosophy
Science for the Christian is the study of God’s creation. The exploration of the creation should yield a direct appreciation for the creative work of God. What can be known of God we know through the creation (For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse – Romans 1:20), but the fallen nature of man and his frequent rebellion to acknowledge a Creator hinder this. Students will continually be called on to see the divine order of creation and its implications for other subjects, be able to manage the created world according to what God has planned in the beginning, and be stirred to think about the work of an infinitely loving, good God who has prepared a place for us to live temporally and eternally.
Course Objectives
Grade six science students gain general knowledge about biomes, and study the desert biome in greater depth. Within that study, they learn the formation and location of deserts around the world, and the plants ands animals God designed to be suited for the desert habitat. In Life Science, students study birds: their design, classification, behavior, markings, and suitability for their habitats. Also in Life Science, students learn how their bodies are changing and God’s principles for sexual purity in their lives. (ESLR: RUC) Earth Science topics are the solar system, weather, and natural disaster. In the solar system unit, students learn about the sun, planets, moon, comets, asteroids, stars, galaxies, and space exploration. (ESLR: NLL) The weather and natural disaster unit covers avalanches, blizzards, droughts, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, landslides, monsoons, tornadoes, tsunamis, volcanoes and wildfires and uses recent (current) events from around the world to study the effects, risks and management of these disasters. (ESLR: SCW) Students learn to integrate biblical knowledge and perspectives in all areas of science studied. (ESLR: ET) In all units students will present and report elements of their studies. (ESLR: DC)
