Philosophy
God’s truth for all of life is given to us in the Bible, along with exhortations to study, know, and teach the precepts therein. More than disseminators of knowledge, we as teachers need to act as coaches or disciplers in Bible class, as fellow members of the family of God who are a little further down the road, helping our younger brothers and sisters in Christ to understand and apply Biblical principles to their lives. To this end, then, we teach Bible class in order to systematically study the Word of God and the doctrine upon which we base our faith, but in a manner which emphasizes dynamic truth for living and dependence on the Living Word, not treating the Bible as a rulebook or textbook.

  • Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Course Objectives
Students in 6th grade Bible class will complete a review of the New Testament. Students develop communication skills, through worship leading, reading scriptures and reflective writing. (ESLR: DC) Student set personal goals, spiritually, mentally and physically and apply biblical principles and memorized scriptures to pertinent issues in their lives. (ESLR: RUC) The students think critically and creatively while interpreting the bible through drama, and group discussion. (ESLR: ET) Because students live in a multicultural environment, they develop a biblical world view which allows them to process the world they live in and shape their attitude and behaviours toward their world. (ESLR: NLL) Students are also encouraged to pray daily for issues relating to their own lives and for the various missions the students are exposed to through the Wesley community. (ESLR: SCW)
